How do I know whether my pump uses a square flange or C-face motor?

Check the mounting face where the motor bolts to the pump housing. Square flange motors (such as on Pentair WhisperFlo and Hayward Super II) have 4 bolt holes in a rectangular/square pattern. C-face motors (such as on Hayward Super Pump) have a circular flange with 4 threaded mounting holes.
